In 2019, IDEO commissioned Taylor Workshop to help prototype a new hospital room for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. IDEO sought to design a hospital room for terminally ill children and their parents that insights joy and creates a playful environment.

To do this, they needed Taylor Workshop to build six prototyped rooms. We built each room full scale from foam core, supplemented with real medical equipment. The rooms required complex ceiling curves on which projected images would be shown.

On a strict one-week time frame, Taylor Workshop fabricators worked long days with IDEO, constructing and assisting with frequent design changes. The finished product beautifully showcased the six rooms with color variances elevating the space for user testing and stakeholder presentation.
